BEFORE YOU HABIT

Preparing your skin for a wax or sugaring session allows us to do our very best work. We recommend the following pre-care considerations to get the most out of your HABIT experience. If you have recently received other skin treatments, injections, or use topical steroids, please refer to our guidelines below before booking.

Do:
LET YOUR HAIR GROW OUT

¼ “ for waxing (2-3 weeks, roughly the length of a grain of rice) 1/16” for sugaring (7-10 days)

DRINK WATER

Hydrated pores release hair more easily.

EXFOLIATE LIGHTLY

A washcloth or light loofah day-of is most effective.

TAKE A MILD PAIN RELIEVER

Aspirin or ibuprofen 45 minutes before your appointment can help reduce inflammation.

DON't:
HEAVY OILS OR DEODORANT

Wax and sugar grip best on clean hair.

TANNING

Avoid prolonged sun exposure or tanning beds for 24-48 hours before your appointment.

BLOOD THINNERS

These may make you susceptible to excessive bleeding

ABRADED/WOUNDED SKIN

We cannot perform waxing or sugaring services over open wounds or rashes.

DOUBLE TREAT

Waxing should not be scheduled immediately before or following an acid peel or microdermabrasion in the same area.

USE CAUTION:
BOTOX/JUVEDERM

You should not receive wax or sugaring services within 14 days of these injectables in the same area.

ACNE MEDICATIONS

These medications affect the skin in different ways and should generally be paused for a minimum of 1 month before receiving a waxing or sugaring service. The exception to this timeline is Accutane, which should be paused for one year.

ACTIVE ACIDS

Acid-based products can thin skin, making it more vulnerable to lifting or irritation. HABIT requires stopping the use of these products for 14 days prior to a wax or sugaring appointment.

AFTERCARE

Take care

Caring for your freshly sugared or waxed skin will help promote healthy regrowth after your visit. The first 48 hours following your service is the most important time to be gentle, and can serve as a great time to practice an extended self-care routine.

Do:
DRINK WATER

Hydrated skin heals faster.

WEAR COTTON/LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING

Minimize chafing and irritation on your freshly smoothed skin.

LUKEWARM SHOWERS + GENTLE CLEANSING

Cooler temperatures and light pressure help reduce redness and swelling.

LOW-IMPACT EXERCISE

Substitute heavy workouts for gentle stretching and yoga.

UNSCENTED SKINCARE

Choose unscented lotions or oils for a couple days following your service.

DON't:
ROUGH EXFOLIATION

Wait at least 3 days before using any abrasive or scrub-like products.

HEAVY PERFUMES OR LOTIONS

Try fragrance-free moisturizers instead.

SPRAY TANNING

Products used for these services can cause breakouts.

HOT TUBS OR SAUNAS

Heat and chlorine can aggravate freshly smoothed skin.

TIGHT/RESTRICTIVE CLOTHING

Snug garments can cause friction and lead to ingrowns.

INTENSE WORKOUTS

Sweat may irritate tender skin.

SKIN TO SKIN INTIMACY

Wait a couple days for frolics to avoid bacterial infections or chafing.
